How many marks do I need?

Click on the web address below to see how many marks were needed to get levels 3-7 over the last ten years.

How many marks do I need? Top Tips 1

Revision

  1. Self praise is no praise - Its no good just revising the parts of science that you really like or are good at. This will only be useful if the exam only covers those areas, which, it wont!! Therefore revise the areas that you are not very good at - the exam will ask lots of questions on these topics!
  2. When revising I have found that music and t.v. are a no no!! They really dont help. Trust me, I have ten years of exam revision experience and they are a hindrance (distraction).
  3. Take regular breaks say every half hour to forty five minutes. This will keep you fresh.
  4. Drink water, this help you concentrate better (however if you drink too much you will have to go to the toilet more frequently).
  5. Invite a friend round to help you and test you. Competition is very useful! They may also understand those tricky areas that you dont and explain them to you.
  6. Make a revision timetable!! When I did my G.C.S.E's I made one of these and they were very usefull. However try not to put all your subjects in one big block. I set aside the first 4 days for science and only spent a day and a half revising it- science overkill. Spread the subjects so that you do two subjects a day.

How many marks do I need? Top Tips 2

  1. Always read the question. If you assume, then there is a good chance that you will get it wrong. When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me :-)
  2. Attempt all questions, do not leave any out especially if they are multiple choice!
  3. How many marks are there for the question? If there are two marks then you have to have two answers.
  4. Take special notice of the bold writing. It is a clue to what they are looking for.
  5. Always do what the question asks - if it says describe then describe, if it says tick two boxes then tick two and not one or three!

Science tips for Sat's exams

By now all your science teachers should be helping you along with past papers and brushing up on the cobwebs that hang from your subject knowledge section of your brain :-) To help speed up this process, help you revise more effectively and eradicate (my fave word of the month) silly mistakes check out the links on the side bar!

Now thats a bright idea!

I know as teacher I must do my bit to save the world. I turn my T.V. off when Im not in the room I dont drive to the gym anymore (I just cancelled the membership instead) and I buy energy saving bulbs. Although these bulbs are a little more expensive than ordinary bulbs they last far longer and use much less energy. So much so that Australia are now banning conventional bulbs for these energy efficient (buzz word of the moment) bulbs. Now thats sounds like a bright idea! Check out the web address underneath for more information.

No more global warming!!!

EUREKA!!! I've solved all our global warming problems. All that horrible dirty carbon dioxide that we make in our car journeys to the newsagents and school (2 minute walk you lazy so and so's) could be food to phytoplankton!! O.k. I'm oversimplifying the matter and by the way it's not really my idea but I have so few decent ones I felt like stealing this one :-). The idea is that these photosynthesising organisms (one celled plants) will utilise (use) the carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, they just need a kick start with some fertilisers. Good news for a change. Realy cool article rather long but worth the read.

Letting the blind see

First I bring you news of bionic arms. Now there is a bionic eye, or two if you want them. Scientists from America and Germany have developed a technique (with the aid of a computer chip) that will allow previousley blind people to recognise faces. Check it out on the link!!

Pictures of the World

There are some amazing pictures about different things that have happened around the world in the last 24 hours here.

This is snow!

During school in the week before half term I heard many, many complaints that we should be at home and the school should be shut because of the snow. We had about 3cm of snow. Compare this to New York state in the USA where they have had over 2m of snow in the last week.

I think that would be enough to close the school! Follow the link below to find out what causes snow. http://www.weatherquestions.com/What_causes_snow.htm. This You Tube link has some great footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIdaFLCQu50.

Welcome from Geography

Welcome to the website from the Geography Department. Just like Mr Billington I will be posting links to internet sites which I hope you will find interesting. You will be able to find extra help with your project homeworks and be able to download and print off new copies of the tasks we set. Make sure that you use the site regularly. Just follow the links we set and you will learn. If you want, complete the extra research tasks that I will post on here over the next few months.

Enjoy learning about the world!

Secrets of the icy sea on Mars | Metro.co.uk

Could there really be martians? Leading scientists from the University College London seem to think so.

New Bionic arm? I remember watching Star Wars as a kid (class film) and seeing Luke Skywalker (the last of the jedi knights) being given a brand new bionic arm. I thought that technology like that was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Not now though. Check out this link to see a vidoe of a woman picking things up with her new arm just by thinking!

Welcome to the site!!

I hope to add tonnes of usefull stuff to help you grasp a better understanding of the world of science and how it impacts on you the future generation :-)
