Now thats a bright idea!

I know as teacher I must do my bit to save the world. I turn my T.V. off when Im not in the room I dont drive to the gym anymore (I just cancelled the membership instead) and I buy energy saving bulbs. Although these bulbs are a little more expensive than ordinary bulbs they last far longer and use much less energy. So much so that Australia are now banning conventional bulbs for these energy efficient (buzz word of the moment) bulbs. Now thats sounds like a bright idea! Check out the web address underneath for more information.

No more global warming!!!

EUREKA!!! I've solved all our global warming problems. All that horrible dirty carbon dioxide that we make in our car journeys to the newsagents and school (2 minute walk you lazy so and so's) could be food to phytoplankton!! O.k. I'm oversimplifying the matter and by the way it's not really my idea but I have so few decent ones I felt like stealing this one :-). The idea is that these photosynthesising organisms (one celled plants) will utilise (use) the carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, they just need a kick start with some fertilisers. Good news for a change. Realy cool article rather long but worth the read.

Letting the blind see

First I bring you news of bionic arms. Now there is a bionic eye, or two if you want them. Scientists from America and Germany have developed a technique (with the aid of a computer chip) that will allow previousley blind people to recognise faces. Check it out on the link!!

This is snow!

During school in the week before half term I heard many, many complaints that we should be at home and the school should be shut because of the snow. We had about 3cm of snow. Compare this to New York state in the USA where they have had over 2m of snow in the last week.

I think that would be enough to close the school! Follow the link below to find out what causes snow. http://www.weatherquestions.com/What_causes_snow.htm. This You Tube link has some great footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIdaFLCQu50.

Secrets of the icy sea on Mars | Metro.co.uk

Could there really be martians? Leading scientists from the University College London seem to think so.

New Bionic arm? I remember watching Star Wars as a kid (class film) and seeing Luke Skywalker (the last of the jedi knights) being given a brand new bionic arm. I thought that technology like that was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Not now though. Check out this link to see a vidoe of a woman picking things up with her new arm just by thinking!
